Abstract:
People with disabilities are a diverse group, as their disabilities cover a wide range of different conditions. Disability is understood as a concept that has emerged and developed through the interaction between individuals with disabilities and their environment. Sport has proven to be an excellent tool for the inclusion of people with disabilities in society, offering numerous positive effects on personal health, individual development, and social life improvement. However, for people with hearing impairments, sailing is often inaccessible, and Paralympic sailing has been discontinued for people with disabilities. The “S vjetrom kroz tišinu” (“With the Wind Through Silence”) project has a long-standing history of engaging deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals through sailing activities and various events throughout the year. Today, it brings together all people with disabilities under the “S vjetrom kroz tišinu” Association, providing rehabilitative benefits to participants through its programs.
