Abstract:
The admission of an emergency patient to the hospital emergency department is a growing challenge. In the Republic of Croatia, emergency services are readily available to patients, as patients can call and receive adequate medical care without referral. In this way, patients benefit from the availability of health care, regardless of whether their health status is urgent indeed, thus increasing emergency admission load. Due to heavy workload of the ambulance service and the increased possibility of missing out on life-threatening patients in the crowd, the emergency department has introduced a triage system based on determining the queue according to the urgency criteria rather than the time of arrival.
